Has anyone successfully fitted a radio aerial (ideally to inc.DAB) to the inside of the steel roof?
I’ve had the aerial hole in the roof of my ‘98 welded up because it continually leaked and before I fit a new headlining, I’d like to install a hidden aerial, rather than fixing one to the inside of the windscreen.
Has anyone who’s done this and can recommend a suitable aerial?

An aerial in the roof lining of my 1,000 Traveller, picked up long-wave well, when stationary ------ When driving, I endured every click of the petrol pump, indicator and headlight dip.

Medium wave was poor  and FM non existent.

There is a way of using the heated rear screen as an aerial, but I don't know if it would work with DAB

Sounds like you were unlucky, I've had several roof aerials, none leaked. A good profile, not too flat, that'll fit the curvier contours a reinforcement plate on inside , shaped to press against the seal on the outside and, potentially, some sealant.

I use a glass mounted aerial that sits between the mirror sucker cup and the window seal

Thanks all, really helpful. I’m becoming aware that a windscreen aerial is potential a better idea if I want to receive a decent signal, I’d just need to find a way of getting the cable out through the headlining without issues.

There’s a digital Pioneer aerial that might do the job, they’re certainly not expensive so might give it a go before refitting the headlining.

The roof and any of the other metal is basically a shield to the signal. Even windscreen antennas aren't great but are far better than putting something directly behind metal.

I try to fit the longest antennas I can, externally and vertically. I laugh at modern cars with antennas on 45° angles, the best signal is found by having the antenna at the same orientation as the transmitter.
