After over three years of our rebuild, we finally have our 1987 Mini Mayfair finished.

Almost.

The one remaiining task was to get the bonnet to fit, close and reopen.  Due to the replacement of the front wings by whoever started the project, the bonnet did not line up properly.  With some judicious bending, that has been rectified and the bonnet now closes.  What we didn't have was the locking pin, spring and thimble that enables the bonnet to lock into the front.  I've sourced the pin and spring off eBay but cannot find the thimble (part number ADA454, according to MiniSpares).  This is out of stock with MiniSpares and Mini Sports don't have it either.

This is the one piece that is preventing us from getting our car on the road.  Does anyone know where I can get one, or something that would work as an alternative?  I tried the Clubman one but that does not work keeping things aligned.

Thanks!

While continuing your quest for the thimble, this might get you on the road.

Discard the spring. --- Fabricate a small hook and attach it where the thimble would be. --- Fix a 'bungee' to the front of the subframe. --- With the bonnet partially closed, slip the bungee over the hook.
