1/4"UNF is 28tpi, so your measurements weren't far off!

In the course of a restoration I have found that my door hinges would benefit from having their threads (for studs and cap screws) cleaned up by chasing the threads with a tap. My question is what is the thread pitch of the door hinge studs/cap screws? I measured 1/4” x 27 threads per inch, but it is such a weird pitch that I doubt my measurement is correct.

It is 1/4"

Look up Unified Fine thread and Unified Coarse thread, which were used on Minis.

minispares seems to suggest 1/4" UNF for both external and internal hinge bolts

Used to really brass me off the different bolts that were used. Then I was shown the light..

Into cast thin threads..

Into alloy. Thicker threads...

And that was my lightbulb moment..

As for into Nutts.. well that it a free for all.....

You need a brighter light bulb.

Cylinder head studs, Rocker pedestal studs, Thermostat housing studs, etc:, have a coarse thread on one end where they screw into cast iron.
