Hi everyone

I am wanting to fit D1 alloys preferably with non spacered minifin rear drums, could you advise what size wheel studs I would need for the rear hubs, I have no arches just the deluxe chrome trim.

Also wondering if 5x10 will be the correct size or do I need 4.5 width rims to look correct with the chrome trim.

Thanks

Daz

I have them in 5x12 so not sure if this helps. They are fitted without spacers on original 12" drums with the inbuilt spacers. The rear pokes out a little bit and the front will be deemed illegal. I'm gonna fit standard arches as they will just fit over the wheels.

As in wheel studs, fronts are the standard length ones and for the rear I've used ENJO-1039, the 58mm length ones from MiniSpares. These: http://www.minispare.../ENJO-1039.aspx

Based on the spacing that the 12" Mini's have I'd say that 10" ones without it will fit perfectly in a 5x10, although I'd advise to check the ET on both 10 and 12"versions. Gos without saying that the front wheels will also have to be the 10"non spacered variant for 10x5 to fit properly.

Hi

Thanks for your input, I have been looking at the standard 35mm rear studs for the hubs running the minifin,I will be running 7.5 discs so need to find out what size studs I will need.

What ET for 10” wheels are we advising.

Thanks

I've used the standard length ones in the rear for just rolling it around, but the thread engagement was too little for my comfort. The fronts should work with the standard length as the rear ones have a little more distance to bridge with the spacer in the drum. The front ones don't have that problem and standard should be fine.

As to poking outside of the body I can't say anything other than that the rears are borderline illegal (where I'm from 30mm outside the body is max.) and the fronts will not fly. From what I've heard is the spacing with 7,5"discs slightly less so it could be that it will work with 10" and archless.

Just cheked the offset with JBW wheels and the 12" is 25mm and the 10" is 17mm. That would mean that 10" wheels poke out 8mm more than the 12" ones. So if you are going to use spaced Minifins in the rear the wheel will sick out more and arches will be a must. Using standard arches would be a perfect fit in mu opinion. The other option is the Group 2 arches that are relatively narrow and have the ability to fot the chrome surround.

My advice would be to go with a D1 if that is the style you want as they are not available in 4,5J as far as I know. If you want fitment without arches a 4,5J wheel would possibly be the safest bet, although I will admit that a little poke with 10" wheels does look excellent.

Hi
Thank you so much for your reply, I may have to choose 4.5j wheels instead, I’ve always liked the D1 look though.
I want no spacers on the rear and was hoping for a flush with the chrome edging look or even slightly sticking out.
I have 35mm studs so maybe that will work.
I’ve also heard that certain wheels do not fit with minifin drums.
I may go standard drums if that is the case.
I will start looking for alternatives.
I will do some head scratching!

Thanks

What front brake setup are you using ?

The track width is different between drum and disk setup so the offset of the wheels will need to take that into account

Given that the 4.5" cooper 'S' rims have a 36mm offset and don't need arches fitted, if the offset of the JBW D1's is 17mm, they'll stick out 20mm more.

If running drums on the front and non-spacered drums on the back, they'd probably be ok

I had original D1s for a while on my 1985 Mayfair (no pictures at the mo). This had spacer drums as standard on the rear and S discs up front. The poke on these only just fitted under standard arches. I can't imagine them fitting with no arches, even without spacer drums.

Hi Guys
Front set up being 7.5 discs calipers..
I think I’m going to go for 4.5J Brm wheels with non spacer rear drums.

I think that might be more realistic, can’t see any issues with this set up.

Thanks

With 7.5" disc set-up on the front, you will need the spacered drums on the rear to maintain the correct relationship between front & rear track. The rear track should be 2" less than the front.

Okay I’m reviving this thread !
So then I made some enquiries from a wheel place with regards to tyres etc and they have said I cannot have 165 tyres as they would be too big and protrude the chrome strip as I have no arches, they would only recommend 145 tyres.
So please tell me what I can get away with. I was thinking 4.5J with 165 tyres, they have suggested 5x10 Superlites and I would need no spacers, I believe the offset is 24mm with those.

In a nutshell I would like 165 tyres and wide enough wheels to be inline with the chrome arch trim all round.

What have you guys done to achieve the same.

Thanks

Daz

here's examples of two types of wheel that will run 165 tyres without the need for arches

4.5"x10 S rims     https://www.theminif...ckup/?p=3750964

4.75"x10 Rosepeltals    https://www.theminif...tion/?p=3663705

there may be other wheels out there to choose from but they would need an offset (ET) of around 30mm or more to be worth considering

Thanks for your input, steel S rims probably not the style I’m thinking… Rosepetals I like but was hoping for a few more options..

Thanks again
