Hey all, I'm on the prowl for a solution for my lost key for the increasingly rare Mk3 style ignition barrel  <_<

My question; is the keyway barrel replaceable on the MK3 or do I bite the bullet and pick up a whole new assembly? I see a lot of mention of an MGB steering lock and ignition barrel fitting, but it seems no-one has posted a successful operation as of yet!

Thanks.

There's a complete mk3 lock and switch assembly on ebay at the moment, not particularly cheap though.

Yes I'm aware of the bay pricey boyos  :teehee: ! I'd much rather replace the barrel if that is an option.

If it's just a missing key, why not unbolt the whole lock assembly from the car and take it to a locksmith? Surely that would be cheaper then a replacement lock?

There were companies that advertised key matching online, worth a look. Can't remember if the key number is stamped anywhere, like door locks, but that's worth looking for too. I have an original key here that's stamped X50, so anything in a similar format. The key pattern is AA3
