when I got my car it didn't have an engine, so there's a few pieces missing. its got the old style heater box, but do i need an heater valve and if so where does it fit?

 

Also what fits on this cylinder

That is a crank case breather.

It plumbs to carb, inlet, atmosphere or catch can.

Cable operated heater valve that fits on the cylinder head and heater hose goes to one side of the heater matrix.

cable operated plunger lever to the front, water piping attaches to rear
