I think is as much a technical question as it is general chat.

I am only speaking from previous experience a long time ago and do not wish to malign the car we all love.

When the wipers on my Mini would sort flick the water off the screen if the rain heavy enough.

Is it possible to the wiper blade to actually press onto the screen as they are meant to?

Perhaps the wiper arm springs get tired?

MPi / landrover hook wipers. Work mint, daily drive mine, decent bosch blades (don't get the aero ones, they don't work well on a Mini.)

That or the heavy duty minispares tex wipers are a good alternative if you want stainless, I have both, and the MPi hook type win.

I had a look here in the link above. Would they be 10" or 11" blades?

I have the Min Spares 13H5630 Wiper Arm Heavy Duty 11" RHD Only S/Steel LH Park-W77753 with the GWB220 Wiper Blade 11" Heavy Duty S/Steel. They work very well for me. I couldn't live with the puny ones that were on the car, when I bought it.

Interesting how you don't find them adequate. The wipers on Moggys are terrible, the solution for my van was to buy Mini wiper arms and blades and shorten the arms slightly. I now have wipers that are absolutely fine for everyday use, even on the motorway in heavy rain.  I bought the MiniSpares wiper kit that comes with Bosch blades. http://www.minispare...|Back to search

I find a decent amount t of rain x assists. 50% off with the driving and 5 % off the wipers.....

The rest forms a lovely blurr around the screen...

Thanks all (I think based on other cars) that the 'hook type' blade engagement is better. There is less waggling of the blade on the arm than you get with the 'slip-on' type.

Wheel boxes & bushes can also make a difference. If they wobble about on the spindles instead of pressing the blades on the glass.

I fitted the heavy duty arms and then couldn't open the bonnet past them as they are deeper so had to revert to standard. Just 1 to watch for on the first time you open it!

Maybe tinkering around with some packing under the scuttle would fettle that?

I did pack it after the first time I opened the bonnet and nicked the paint😄. So I put the old set back on. They work fine so not a problem

I gave up trying to get the wipers to work effectively and use Rain-X.

Used to have allegro arms iirc, on rebuild fitted hook arms, but with longer than mini blades, works so much better. Also helped massively strip and cleaning, greasing the wiper boxes and motor.

On my last non mpi mini, I fitted mpi arms with Bosch blades and it was perfect in all the rain that the west of Scotland throws at me.
