I am going to add some auxillary items such as electric windows/USB etc.

I prefer to run everything I do from a separate fuse box so it's easier to separate/remove/change etc.

Will probaby mount it in the engine bay next to the original (I have bought the same 4 fuse box).

So the question is where to take the permanent and switched live feeds without causing any potential issues with any of the other electric aspects of the car - I was thinking of taking from the solenoid as I am replacing that next week anyway so can sort the wiring at the same time.

Any issues or better suggestions.  Needs to be at the front of the car otherwise I would have taken the permanent feed directly from the battery.

take both feeds from the main battery terminal on the solenoid

create a switched live feed by running one of the feeds through a relay triggered off an existing switched live circuit

For the permanent feed, starter solenoid is indeed your best bet.

For the switched, i would take it from the coil if you have it. use it and a relay to switch the permanent feed on/off and the output of the relay goes to the auxiliary fuse box

Thanks guys - hadn't thought about using a relay to create the switched feed from the permanent feed but great idea and one I will use tomorrow!

Will also take the same approach for a lights on feed too :-).

Managed to spend some time in the garage today so fitted a push button solenoid and also fitted a couple of relays with the extra fuse box at the same time.  I had forgotten how small and low the engine bay was (my back now aches!) but all sorted and now have a fused permanent feed, an ignition (coil) switched feed and a lights on switched feed so plenty to add a few auxillary toys!

Pleased with how it work and actually looks - thanks for the advice above :-).

nice job

one thing to note is that taking the switched live relay trigger from the coil +ve will mean anything on that switched live circuit may compete with the ignition circuit for power during engine crank (..the alternate switched live circuit doesn't get power during engine cranking)
