Hi all,

I was examining the grille on my 98 cooper today to work out whether I just need a new grille moustache (it’s got a bad dent) or whether I also need a new grille. And this cut away with a raised lip caught my eye - see green arrow on photo - it is quite prominent (more than the photo suggests). So it had me wondering whether it is common for this to be visible or a sign that my grille is also pushed in? Any feedback would be much appreciated before I order the replacement parts. Thank you.

Not standard, not original.

Well I just had a look at replacement heritage panels and this replacement front end MPI panel appears to have the same cut out so that suggests this is standard for MPIs:

It's a standard MPi panel, the 'cutout' is to accommodate the fan motor on the front facing radiator.

It is visible because you have a '98 Cooper that has been retro fitted with the earlier Mk1 Cooper grille rather than the standard larger Mk2/3 onwards Mini grille.

Thank you - that clears that up then. Think I will install a couple spot lamps to distract from it.
