We are getting close to the point of fitting new outer sills to the new floor in a ‘80 van. The Sills have a 1inch hole which is just after the B post from memory.

Does anyone know the purpose of the hole?

Cheers
Tony

This hole would be for the original jack to be inserted into the jacking point inside the sill which was reinforced behind but often rusted away.....so usually much safer to use a scissor jack or trolley jack under the front or rear subframe.

Thanks for the reply, is it generally left as is , blanked off or covered with a grommet. The van had over sills when I bought it so no indication.

Thanks for the trolley / scissor jack tip but I was aware of that thanks.

it is NOT for the jack on a van. If it was for a jack it also wouldn't be a round hole.

Vans always had a jack to be used on the subframes as there is no set balance point as it could have a full load in the back.
