Evening,

I am hoping for some advise please.

I am looking to buy a 1275 engine, but it has a DAM4818 gearbox. I have read that these are weaker than others, and it appears that the 5626 is better. Should i be avoiding a 4818? I am planning head work and an uprated cam, but would be initially running it as is.

Cheers.

I have found them to be the weakest of any case they made.

I'd be fairly sure, if you removed the Mainshaft Bearing Retainer Plate, you'll find cracking starting from some of the bolt holes, particularly that at the 11 O'clock position..

The 5626 I have found to be streets ahead of the 4818.
