Does anyone know where I can find a diagram of where the main wiring loom goes and what connections connect where?

Can't help with routing diagram, although I'm sure I've seen one.  Mine, whilst sitting in the car facing forwards enters the car from the fuse box through a triangular hole in the bulkhead. Some of it goes right towards the steering column and some relays under the shelf. The rest goes left towards the radio, immobiliser box & a multi connector that sits on the bulkhead just above (i think) the shelf. From there some go up the A-pillar to the interior light and elsewhere, whilst others go down to the floor and travel towards the back of the car in one of the indented flutes in the floor.  I've not investigated what the split is from the multi connector as my current issues are before that.

There's a full set of documents for the mpi in the post below. Won't be exactly the same as your spi but there will be some synergies.  The electrical library document runs through all of the connectors in the car, their type, how they're wired and a picture of the location.
