Who Has The Wrong Coil?

Anyway today I was tinkering with the daily and whilst I was there I had the meter out so thought I'd check the coil. Should be 1.5 ohms. It measured 0.9. It was purchased from a well known mini supplier last year as a 1.5, easy enough mistake but I wonder how many cars have problems from wrong parts.
Ordered the correct one and this time I'll make sure to double check.

Is it really the wrong coil - 0.9ohms is correct for the GCL143 that was fitted with factory electronic ignition. I know AC has preferred 1.5 ohm ballasted coils, I think because of quality issues with replacements for the original 143. If it works without any issues I'd stick with it.

If the resistance is too low it'll put more load on other bits of the circuit. Are you measuring between the + & - ve spade terminals with enough disconnected to be sure you're only measuring the coil & not part of the loom?

Coil was totally disconnected when I checked. Car runs ok, it's always spun a couple of times before it starts, but never an issue. That's why I re-ordered the correct coil because I don't want to wear anything prematurely. But it's been a daily and always behaved itself with no problems.

How long has it been run with that coil? When were the points last replaced?
If it has been run like this for any time the points are likely bad unless possibly if there is a high resistance in the primary wiring.

The car has done about 1100 miles since it's been rebuilt. It's had that coil fitted the whole time.
The loom is in good condition, I went through it all when I was building the car. I'm guessing the points might have taken a hammering then?

Yes, it's quite likely the points may have got burnt up a bit as they were holding a lot more current.
Like a lot of parts for a mini it seems relatively straightforward, but as they changed the coil a couple of times during production & cars these days have been messed with and could have anything fitted. Unless you know exactly what you need and can measure and check everything you buy there's a good chance you have the wrong part or it's not fit for purpose.
