On the YouTube description it's a 1460 and revs to 9k.
Just interested to know what's inside it 😳

An interesting read there spider.
Was it ever decided what was best, forged or billet?
I know nothing about metallurgy but would it be possible to forge the billet then machine/grind it to a crank?
Or am I talking crap?

Hehehehe,,,,, no crap involved !

When people talk about a 'billet' crank, basically, these are made by taking a slab or bar of steel stock and then machining the crank from that.

With a forged item, it actually starts out as a billet, that's then heated to red / orange hot, then hammered in to rough shape (in a forging hammer) of the final item, then it's finished by machining.

Forged cranks are stronger and in quantity, cheaper to produce, however the difference in strength between them you won't find when running either in any A Series Engine, both are very strong, but the forged item is just that bit stronger again.

Some production engines also used cast iron cranks. These too were quite strong and most don't show weakness until you start getting 3 - 4 times their stock power levels. The Ford Flat Head V8 Engine had a cast crank - and 3 Main Bearings - just like our A Series Engines. Side by side, the Ford V8 Crank is longer than the A Series but the journals, webs etc are very similar sizes. Hot Rodders regularly run these to 600 + HP.
