Quick couple of questions.
Fitting sill trim should i be 'waxoyling' before i push the trim on to give extra protection on the seam.

And, fitting the arches. Is there a less permanent (easier maintenence) solution to drilling the sill and fitting a big rivet
When attaching the arch....a rivnut maybe?

Thanks

I remove the sill trim regularly when washing the car to clean and dry the seam where water and dirt/ road salt, etc tends to collect....waxoyl will probably help if your Mini is used as a daily driver.

If you do choose to fit alloy Rivnuts use plastic or alloy bolts, NOT stainless steel. With water ingress stainless steel will quickly rust itself to the alloy Rivnuts and you’ll wish you’d left the rivets in.

is there some reason why you would avoid stainless rivnuts and therefore also stainless bolts (genuine question not being sarky)

the only ones I'm going to be wary of are on the back half of the the rear left arch.  i.e. the ones that are hidden by the fuel tank, all the others it's easy enough to get to the back side if you need to.  maybe on those 2 or 3 whatever it is use a bit of locktite or something

worth noting perhaps though that a rivnut has a collar which means perhaps some minor issue with the arch not sitting totally flush to the body work (depending on how the fixing part of the arch is exactly, you might be able to dremel it away to make a bit of space.. ? I've not done it myself)  wheras with the normal self tapping screw or pop rivet method of course you dont have that issue

There’s an o/e rubber trim available designed to fit the small arches, some cars have it some don’t. It should hide a gap issue.

In my experience stainless is not always the answer. It galls easily, some is softer than you want and it can cause corrosion in anything in contact with it.It is a wheel arch, bolt it on with some dynax or similar and leave it alone thereafter.Steve..

Slight confusion here possibly.
I have origonal mpi arches and there are 5 threaded studs that insert into the arch with a nut on the inside (difficult access due to tank)
BUT thats not what i am after.
The part of the arch that is moulded over the sill has a hole that is used to attach the arch to the sill.
OEM fit i think is a rivet. Has any one fitted a rivnut for this and a plastic bolt.

I have asked in a previous thread about this.
I wasnt going to pay 100quid for a fullset of threaded studs so bought these.

So you’re saying you don’t have Mpi arches, but have Mpi Sportspack arches?

I hope image like works.
I do have origonal mpi sportspack arches.

There is a hole for a fixing (a rivet as standard). At the point where the arch wraps around the sill.
Just want to know if anyone has fitted a rivnut and bolt or any other ideas.
