Is it possible to lubricate the shaft on the starter motor.  My bendix does not seem to run as smooth as it should.  Battery is fully charged and all leads connections are good.

Be careful:oil can cause dirt to stick to the shaft and make the situation worse. Try degreasing it, instead.

Graphite powder is the correct thing to use.

Have ordered some grafite powder.  Will degrease with brake cleaner and then apply small amount.  I see can be used on door locks also so another little job. Appreciate all thoughts

Graphite powder is one of the most useful dry lubricants you can get. If need be you can use the crushed lead from a pencil, but do not rely on that for anything important as it is not necessarily pure graphite, but for the odd stubborn lock or squeaky hinge it is ok.
