Hello there.

Has anyone fitted this item as a replacement for the ashtray? It comes with a USB socket and so needs to be connected up. I am not sure if it should be switched or live all the time. Even worse I am not confident which lead/fuse I should tap into. Has anybody done this on an MPi or got any 'wisdom'?

Regards

I have something similar but mines a clock and USB port.   Personally I don't like permanent live items or tapping into existing wiring so mine is a new wire which is switched on with the ignition but that's my choice just make sure you use a fused feed what ever you do.  As it's in the centre of the dash I would be minded to take a direct (fused) feed from the starter motor or solenoid and run through an ignition (coil) switched relay to the USB socket.  You can use the the same feed for other auxiliaries etc.

I’ve fitted a wireless magnetic charger on my ash tray, all in cost about £30 from amazon, and to be honest neater than the ash tray replacements available that still require a charge port type charger ie not wireless.

Constant vibration of a Mini isn’t good for the chargeport either as i’ve found. (Daily Cooper Sportspack)

I 3D printed an ashtray insert and mounted a quad lock onto it.  The stereo I use has a USB port on it.
