So both sealed beams have decided to stop working.

Tail lights work when headlamp switch is turned on -  But nothing from front, not even headlamp flash  switch- but blue light to say main beam is on  comes on.! However instrument lights on dash do come on.

With switch turned off, headlamp flash operates main beam , and blue warning light comes on as expected ...

Could it be a switch problem .. or a short on switch to headlamp wiring ?

thanks

Have you got 12v at the headlight connection?

Broken/loose/bad connection on headlamp stalk, or duff connection at the bullet connectors under the bonnet slam panel?

So no sidelights either? That would suggest earths, if the tail & dash illum are ok. The headlight flasher might find a path to earth via the side light circuit, but I wouldn't expect much brightness from them in series with a load of little bulbs.

You could unplug the stalk connection below the cowl & hotwire the blue fed from the rocker switch to the blue/red to the dipped beams to eliminate the stalk.

It's not got a dim/dip circuit has it?

Examine the main light switches and wiring/connectors especially if oversized lamps have been fitted.

well, yesterday , I took her out for a couple of miles spin - turned on ignition and indicator warning light was flashing , although not activated - (checked  lamps wern't actually flashing ), Only stopped when I presed hazzard switch on and off  !

I'd pulled headlamp switch out of dash- wehn I tried the switch for lights - there was a crack and a spark ! - but no fuse blown !

going to replace switch and dim dip relay as a start !

That's how minis are, as a rule of thumb I check switches, power checks and then check the wiring at the grille

Ok so now the lights are working - the wiper motor has packed up- I idid remove the switch unit so I could change the indicator stalk - but the washer unit ciruit on it works , and it seems to click - when moving- so doubt its faulty ... so thinking earth wire again --- but not sure where the ultimate earth of the motor is ?

help !!!

On the inner wing on the right hand side above the brake bias where the loom comes through a little hole in the inner wing where it goes through towards the front..

Nothing stopping you putting another earth in and using a new earth connected to the old earth point..
