Unfortunately for you that kit looks like a waste of money, it will probably be worse than using an original distributor and standard plugs. They don't list different advance curves for different engines so it will be another "lucky dip" distributor.

 

That aside I don't think it will actually be the issue you are having currently. Still, Please check the timing throughout the rpm range first before adjusting the mixture.

 

 

 

Distributor or dissy cap? All timed in correctly?

 

I doubt it can even be timed correctly with that distributor

I did some troubleshooting this morning. Swapped plugs and checked the gaps and that was ok. Turned out to be the wire to number 4.

I did some troubleshooting this morning. Swapped plugs and checked the gaps and that was ok. Turned out to be the wire to number 4.

Thanks everyone for your help. This place rocks!

 

If the wire was the problem then surely that plug would be the darkest? number one also looked leaner than 2&3

The car was running rough. After I changed the wire it started running normal
And the color changed to golden brown ‍♂

I suppose if the plug wasn't firing at all then the fuel/air mixture would wash the plug clean.
