It was actually one of the first mg versions released.
I have removed the pistons and they are stamped 20832 hepolite.
I got a set of rings from hastings part no 6802. The oil ring is spot on and is a 3 piece 5/32 version and the top ring is fine too at 1/16.
The problem is with the second ring.
Originally the second ring was a step scraper type but the hastings set contains only standard compression rings.
The issue I have is that the second ring protrudes when on the piston so it won't go into the cylinder, the radial depth is too thick.
I have found part number R21576-00 which looks like they'll work.
Thing is, by the time I buy rings again and messing about am I better off just getting new pistons?
If so which ones are OK for standard road driving?
I have seen 20251 and they come with rings

So have you had the bores measured and decided that any wear is to be ignored?
or has it been honed and is still in tolerance?
I would be surprised if an early MG block would have no wear.

The block has been honed.
Metro was bumped into and left in storage for many years, it was a very low mileage

It has a flat top head with inserts on the inlet ports too.

I thought it had TRW Pistons, not that that matters here.
I have used those very rings on the same pistons.
Have you checked the ring groove depth as I suggested in our PM and have you fitted the ring on it's own, square in the bores and checked the end gaps ?

If you were to swap pistons...
can you get them with the same dish??.... and also you'll need to mess around getting them swapped off the rods...
Might be easiest to just talk to total seal for a set of rings.
