Hi all,
Does the clutch housing breather need plumbing into the carb or just to the atmosphere ?

Very few cars had the breathers venting to atmosphere.
using the original setups that went to the carb or valve and then manifold are very good way of connecting the breathers. The original design of the breathers is actually quite clever as it drops the oil out of the air and returns it to the engine as well as It reducing smell, Helps remove moisture from the engine and creates a lower pressure in the engine.
racers Teng to vent to atmosphere via a catch tank of a size required by regulations.

PCV positive crankcase ventilation.
Sucking the blow by fumes out reduces them contaminating the oil and lower than atmospheric pressure in the engine makes it harder for oil to flow past the oil seals. Using the engine intake helps emissions by having another go at burning the fumes.
Race engines might lose a tiny bit of power breathing in a small amount of hot gases in place of cold air, but the main reason is they don't generate much manifold vacuum running at wide open throttle, unlike a cruising road car.

For road use, either a PCV or CCV set up - as per factory - without question. Its one thing the factory got very right. It circulates an 'air' flow though the crankcase, drawing off combustion by-products and moisture, reducing acid and 'mayo' build up in the oil as well as the other benefits mentioned by Ethel ^

We shouldn't be surprised burning a hydrocarbon fuel makes a fair bit more water than the fuel we burned.

Hi Guys, so plumbing the timing chain and clutch housing vents into the car will be sufficient ? By the way Spider hello long time no speak hope you're well, what's CCV ?

Hi Brianhater ! Going going OK thanks mate.
CCV = Closed Crankcase Ventilation.
On the later Carbs, they had a Port on them for this system (Blue arrow here);-
That connects to the Crankcase Oil Separators.
Other than that, be sure the Oil Filler Cap is a Vented type.

If you're in a rusty environment let it vent to atmosphere and you will have a nice oily engine compartment
