1380 engine twin carbs, car has a servo fitted
White smoke constantly start up on idle and accelerating.
Desperately need any help I can get.
My garage did work on the engine as in re-honed the bores
To cure the white smoke but have fall en out with said garage
Don’t trust them to get the jobs done

If you give a rough location where you are based, there might be someone on here that can recommend a good Mini friendly garage in you area, as it sounds like you don't plan to do the work yourself. It does sound like either bore wear and or piston piston ring wear. Honing the bores has the effect of making them slightly larger, which may cause more problems than it solves. It sounds like the engine needs to come apart and be checked over and overhauled as needed,

The most commom reason for white smoke at the exhaust is water vaporising.

Check the coolant level and top up as required if needed, check the engine oil for any signs of water contamination and if all clear take the car for a run getting it up to operating temperature to clear any condensation from the exhaust.

If the white smoke persists then the most likely suspects are the cylinder head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.

When the engine has cooled down recheck the coolant level to see if there is any change and work from there.

Probably if there was no problem before the engine work it points a cylinder head gasket problem.

White smoke doesn't seem to indicate oil burning, as this is usually blue.

You say you have a servo fitted, I remember similar problems in the past where brake fluid can be drawn into the inlet manifold and this can burn as white smoke. Might be worth checking the servo isn't leaking brake fluid.

Are you losing any brake fluid?

Cheers, Steve.

I had exactly the same happen on my Mrs Mini, and if it is the M/C that's gone, make sure you get a genuine replacement.
