You wouldn't be able to use stainless steel everywhere though. Some bolts are very specific.

yip. a "standard" stainless steel bolt is around grade ~5 compared to a standard non-stainless bolt being grade 8.8 (and brakes possibly even higher). As such, you don't want to be using them on brakes, suspension, or even to my mind subby mounting or mounting brackets. That doesn't exactly leave a lot....

I would suggest that 99% of nuts & bolts on a mini are High Tensile Steel

So there would be no problem with 'indifferent materials'?

Thats right, but you can use stainless on "dress up" parts, but if doing that, why not alloy?

Things like alternator brackets can be stainless, cant they?

Is it anything not under pressure/stress?

Doesnt using stainless nuts and bolts cause the surrounding area to rust quicker?

If you go to your local hardwear suplier they will be able to sell you the correct length and thread bolts individualy. As for the tensile strength then just go for a higher grade, your hardwear place will be able to advise you on this.

But fitting a stainless bolt isn't going to stop it seizing up if its going into one of the many mild steel captive nuts on the mini body as they will still rust.

Hope thats not the mini your rallying, or I'd be looking at changing a lot of those bolts before your first rally!
