Over the last couple of months I have replaced the following on my 1980 Clubman 1275GT with new parts.

Clutch hydraulics (Master/slave/arm etc)

Alternator

Starter and solenoid

Brake master

Door winders

Distributor cap, points and leads

Top engine stabiliser

Gear box breather

Heater valve

Heater/choke cables
Sunpro mechanical oil pressure gauge and pipe

Everything was working fine but clearly showing signs of age.  The engine bay is now much cleaner and tidier!

I now have several boxes of dirty old spares which are of no use to me and could do with getting rid.

My question is .... is there any value or parts that could be of use to others, which bits should I just throw away and where's best to sell anything useful?

Thanks

my first step would be to look at the cost of the new items and compare that vs. the effort of refurbing them

heater valve for example is, what, less than £20?  no point messing about with an old one, bin it

cables similar answer

starter and alternator, could get them rebuilt but how much does that cost and how much are new ones

for other parts, can you still get hold of them as new , if not is there already loads used on ebay and how much are they going for, is it worth your time and effort

etc

that's just the way I look at it though others may be desperate for those bits and have a different opinion obvs

Check out ebay for second hand items like starters and window winders etc.  Asked prices may be more than actual sale prices but would give you an idea what they're worth and if you think it's worth your time to try to sell them.

I’d hold onto everything for a minimum of 12 months, that’s normally how long a poor modern reproduction part will last. Parts like new heater valves and starter solenoids have a habit of lasting just long enough for the seller to void responsibility

It’s handy to keep a known working part aside too if you have the spare. If for example you have a charging issue you can try installing your old one to rule out the new alternator

Original BMC/BL/Rover parts are nearly always better quality than modern reproduction parts if they can be refurbished. Even rubber items are often better cleaned up and re-used if possible rather than fitting short lived new replacements.

The only thing I'd even consider throwing out would be the hydraulics. everything else I've seen such poor quality in replacements and since they were working I'd rather use them than replacements.

Thanks everyone - I will throw away the dirty hydraulics and cheap to replace stuff and keep a few of the other bits for a while.

Current photo of engine bay to show what's been done so far - not too much more left!
