Hello - Is it normal for the passenger side front guard to get hot to touch (measured 44-48 degrees C) when my Mini (96 Rover SPi model) is stationary and the engine has been idling for 10-12 minutes?

Has a new correct type radiator cap for the SPi side mounted radiator. Also has new thermostat and temp sensor at the bottom of the radiator.  Engine & radiator has been flushed with cleaner and filled with new coolant etc.

I will double check today if the radiator fan has been fitted the correct way around and also run the engine again for 10 minutes with the heater valve fully open to see if this helps

Look where the radiator is and direction of airflow, the fan pushes air through the rad, past the inner wing, to the NSF wing, arch.

Yes, it will be hot.

You may also notice that the fresh air on the left side of the car is warmer than the outside temp. The hot air from the rad heats that up as well.

For the fan, make sure the "smooth" side of the center hub is facing the engine. The side with the ridges and moulded in sleeve washers are facing the rad.

Yes it will get hot when standing. Once on the move it will cool to a more reasonable temp.
