I've seen it written a few times that there was/is 2no lengths of clutch pushrod, is this correct or is it just a case of good old BMC/Rover tolerance.

Same rod was used for both types of clutch.

there may have been something different on very early clutches but generally there is one length. Tha5 is not to say we did not make them longer rather than replace worn out clevis pins.

There was at least two different lengths from the factory.
Not sure why, but I suspect it was to make the slave cylinder operate with the piston slightly further back in the bore.

As Graeme mentioned, there was 2 length that I know of, one was used with the Spring Clutches and the other for the Diaphragm Clutch. The Spring type from memory, was around 8 - 10 mm shorter.

I just bought a stainless adjustable pin from eBay so I can change the length.

All that will do is hide any problems.

Just to clear things up, I didn't ask the question to try and take up slack, everything is new in the system including one of the MS H/D clutch arms, the arm is sitting at a very nice 1.30-2.00 o'clock position, one minor gripe is that the bulge in the arm where the stop bolt contacts, doesn't line up very well.
