Hi, I have a 1998 MPI which had the engine taken out for body work but when it went back in it now won’t start, I’ve had the ECU checked and this is working fine and I’m getting a spark air and fuel and the engine turns over, I’ve changed both Cam and Crank sensors so I’m baffled.
On the Lucas immobiliser box there is a broken wire which is white and yellow but I can’t find the other end, could this be the issue? Help

The WY wire is the antenna which is open ended (from memory about 15cm long) on the single connector 5AS. Later later dual connector units the antenna loops back into the unit.

The 5AS enables the starter to operate when active (not immobilised) and the MEMS ECU is code pairing with the 5AS to give you spark. So indicates it is not a immobiliser issue.

A couple of thoughts:

  • Are you getting fuel from the injectors?
  • Have you sprayed fuel directly into the throttle body when cranking?
  • Do you have access to a timing lamp to see whether the spark is roughly in the right place? - though MPIs do not have timing marks on the chain cover.

If you’re getting spark and fuel normally that means the immobiliser isn’t stopping it from running?

Are all the ignition leads on in the right order? Is it possible the inertia switch has been tripped?
