I would like to drain some of the old fuel from my saloon's petrol tank.

I realise i could remove the tank but i was thinking i could just pump the majority out.

Do you guys use a manual or electric pump?

Just disconnect it, it’ll trickle out pretty quickly, takes about 20’mins to drain a full tank.

I find one of these motor cycle tank draining syphons works quite well for draining out a Mini petrol tank:-

Once the fuel starts syphoning out the tank after using the manual pump squeezing action to get started, you can quickly stop the syphon flowing by opening the valve on top of the manual pump.

if electric pump is fitted then this is the easiest way. if not syphon but get biscuits ready if going 'old school' unleaded not that nice (from experience!!)

The way I did it was as follows. Put a piece of hose pipe down to just above the bottom of the tank.

Got the largest fitting for an airbed 12v pump set that in the filler neck using duck tap so that hose and fitting were totally sealed with the tank filler.

Stuck some duck tape over the overflow at the top of the tank.

Connected the pump to the fitting and switched on.

Once the fuel started to flow into the suitable container switched off the pump and just let the syphon action complete the job.

Pump was on for about 1 1/2 minutes to get sufficient pressure.

The pump cost me about £15 online somewhere but had it anyway for pumping up our large pool top ring.
