Hi. My engine number is stamped:
9FUSAH 25599

Could someone help decipher this for me please? I’m trying to figure out if this is the original engine or if it has ever been replaced.

Thanks

Post up a picture as that number is not correct. But that could just be a reading error due to age (corrosion etc).

what engine are you expecting it to be?

I’m expecting a 1968 998 cooper mk2. But I don’t know much about its history engine wise.

From doing a little bit of research it looks like this might be the 997 engine from the earlier cooper. I stand to be corrected though

Looks like 9FDSAH25589, to me.

Since the rivet holes are there would the original number not have been on one of these?

That would make more sense.

998 Cooper January 1964-onward
9FA/Sa/H Mk1 Austin pre- closed circuit breathing
9FD/Sa/H Mk1 Morris up to engine number 1934, all Austin Mk2 closed circuit breathing and Morris Mk2 from engine number 1935-33660 with closed circuit breathing
9FD/Xe/H 4-synchro gearbox introduced
99/-/H Last of manufacture 1969
