are you talking about what 'running in oil' means

it's a type of oil which is for running in an engine.  i.e. in the early stages after a rebuild you use it to protect the cams, rings, cylinder bores and so on

(or something more technically accurate than that if you want to get all pedantic but the general idea is right)

so.... beautiful explanation. Thank you very much for you help. Could you tell me some name, link or reference of that type of oil... so I can buy it.

Cheers
Luis

Used to use XL for all my late 60's rallying. My navigator was the local Castrol Competitions Rep. Came in lovely 5 gallon containers with a tap.

This one?

That's the container but I had the XL one.

Thank you Timmy! Í could find that oil in my city, but it's very expensive. I'll leave the current oil (10w40) or ... I'll put a basic 20w50 mineral, just to start the engine and to cover the first 100kms.

When I got my first Minis in the early 1960s Castrol was a straight 30 grade, whilst XXL was a 40 grade.
They became multi-grade in around 1965.
The first multi-grade I remember using was a Mobiloil 20w50 in 1964.
I thought that the original Castrol GTX was the first Castrol multi-grade, but after 60 years the memory might be failing a bit.
It's rumoured that BMC Comps Dept were signed up to use Castrol, but in fact used Kendall oil in Castrol tins.

Thanks for your contribution Cooperman. About 7 or 8 years ago I heard that many batches of fake Castrol oil cans had been detected. I think nothing is like before. I have this unopened can from Millers. An oil that is considered one of the best, but I don't want to put it in the engine now because it is very viscous. I think it is better to use a less viscous oil now and when the engine has already running, put in the Millers.

Hi guys! Anyone know this oil?

Screenshot-20240425-194001-Chrome.jpg

"Fuzz Townshend's Classic Oils own-label Hot Hatch oil is a semi-synthetic 10W-40 engine oil meeting the ACEA and API specifications required by many high performance Hot Hatches from the 1980's and 90's. Tested and approved by TV's Fuzz Townshend, star of National Geographic's hit show Car SOS. Blended in the UK to Fuzz's own formulation of top quality mineral and synthetic base stocks, we have produced a high quality engine oil with outstanding properties at a sensible price. Its naturally higher lubricity offers lower internal friction which reduces engine wear and improves fuel economy. It provides excellent stay-in-grade performance for a wide range of later classic engines and boasts a ZDDP content of 1300ppm for reduced wear".

Think it's just a rebranded Morris Lubricants oil.

Think it's just a rebranded Morris Lubricants oil.

That doesn't clarify anything.

Nice rude reply there to someone helping.
You’ve asked a question, again.. been told what oil by experts in the Mini scene, ie ac dodd, then asked againnnn about another oil, been told it’s Morris lubricants.

Has google broke or something? or is this generation now where research doesn’t exist. Don’t get it.

It's curious that you haven't intervened in such a long post before. Apparently, you were waiting for a supposedly 'rude' response to open your mouth.
Well, so that there is no space for any misunderstanding in the future and with my Google English. When I ask a question here, I would ask you to pretend you don't see it. I repeat; Don't answer anything I ask, nothing. Has it been clear enought to you or has it been too 'rude' for your ears.
Cheers!

It does really, you asked if anyone knew that oil, Gazza told you that it's rebranded ML oil. You didn't ask for clarification on anything.

when they say 'rebranded' they're saying it's another manufacturers oil with a different label stuck on it

i,e if you want details on it, look at the morris brand and assume it will be the same

sometimes a language barrier can make things come across the wrong way, if you want snarky comments and pointless arguments maybe facebook is the place to be

I asked 'does anyone know this oil?' When I ask this I'm referring to whether anyone has used it, what sensations they have had in terms of lubrication, smoothness in the gearbox, noise of the rocker train, hot pressure levels... consumption. Any information was welcome.
