Hi I’m looking to change the fuel filter on my 2000my MPi Cooper Sport. I’ve had a Quick Look on line and the info I’ve seen says to squash the rubber pipes either side of the filter first. I can’t see how fuel can leak (apart from a minor amount in hose) from the tank side if the pumps not running. Also does the down stream need clamping? Is there much fuel in the system? Or is it due to the need to keep the system primed. Any help or advice appreciated.

I've never bothered clamping the pipes on mine.
Just get everything ready to hand, whip the old one out and the new one in, paying attention to direction of flow.
Job's a good un.

That’s what I thought as there can’t be a lot in the pipes and I can’t see how it could empty out of the tank.
