Hi as the title suggests I've got a 998 in my car ATM which I've got a Kent 276 cam fitted.
I've picked up a 1275 for a very good price and it's standard. Just wondering as i believe I can but I should be able to put my cam in the 1275 right? Including pushrods, followers etc. and if for whatever reason the oil pump key is different on the 1275 can I put the 998 oil pump from mine in the other engine?

Yes,

BUT

Because the 998 has 2 cam cover plates, by lifting the rockers, removing the pushrods and taking out the cam followers, it is possible to extract the cam with the engine in situ.

If your 1275 doesn't have cam cover plates, there is no way of getting at the cam followers to take them out.

I have managed it by lying the engine on its back and using 8 very strong magnets on "wooden" pushrods to lift the cam followers off the cam, extracted the cam.

My best advice is to split the engine from the gearbox and take the opportunity to fit a new oil pump.,

The push rods are also different lengths. I'd be inclined to use new followers too - somebody might have a better opinion on whether keeping the followers matched with each lobe is acceptable in a different block.

The cam is the same, pushrods are shorter in a 998, the oil pump is different so you will need a new one. You could move the lifters over into the new engine. When fitting a new oil pump don't forget to load it with either engine assembly lube or Vaselene, otherwise the pump won't lift the oil out of the sump and its a lot of faffing about trying to build oil pressure, also check that the oil pump bolts aren't bottoming out before the pump is clamped to the block. Make sure the oil pump matches the cam drive ( pin, star or slot drive)

Depends on the state of the followers.  If they have no pitting or obvious wear on the faces or sides and have clearly been rotating correctly then it would seem acceptable, simply because the cam and folower will have become matching.  If they get out of order or aren't perfect then new ones would be my way to go.

Also if the cam is a slot drive (Kent 276 probably is) then check the new oil pump drive spade doesn't bottom out in the cam drive slot before the oil pump seats down tightly.  This was a warning Keith Calver gave in his cam fitting instructions and it turned out to be the case.  I had to grind a bit off the drive spade to allow the cam some end float off the cam retaining plate.

Thankyou for the replies I completely forgot about the absence of the rear covers on a 998 ( even though I changed mine a few months ago 🤣) swapping engines is a long way away as I need to make sure the 1275 is healthy first. Jumping the gun as usual me haha.
