As title says. This little mini has had some switches added and one of them is under the speedo

Why would someone put a switch there? I cant see the wire colours without major surgery. Any ideas?

Didn't the one-dial binnacle sometimes have a translucent plastic plug with a lamp behind it, and a switch on the side of the binnacle for it? To illuminate the shelf? Did the 3-dial binnacle ever have the same?

Does it fire the Ejector Seat ?

Stick a "Boost" label on it. Will shorten journey-times nearly as much as go-faster stripes do.

lol, I’m thinking that it could be instrument lights, that would make sense. I will test tonight in the dark. Not driven it at night yet!

Feel around under the other side, is there a wee lamp cover there?

So the switch isnt for the bulb for the gauges. I was in a tunnel yesterday and the switch didnt seem to change anything!

It’s normally a factory switch to turn off the instrument lights (when the headlights are switched on). I’m yet to find myself in a situation where I want the instrument lights off at night!

On the other side of the single gauge pods there was also a switch to turn on the parcel shelf lights.

that's something Saab used to do isn't it, the minimal dash lighting option, not sure if it was totally just for the gimmick of 'we also make jet planes' or they came up with some other actual reason

 

useful when you're lining up for another run at the Möhne Dam, not really much point anywhere else

 

a dimmer dial though, that;s nice you can find just the right setting and then leave it there permanently never touching it ever again

I thought it was to turn of the instrument lights when the sidelights were on for parking purposes.  Many many years ago at least some cities insisted on marker lights for cars left parked on the road; Southampton was one.  A little light that clipped onto the window was sold as an alternative to the sidelights for the job.  Obviously the instrument lights wouldn't be needed for a parked car.

I wire the electric petrol pump from that switch.

 

There is enough fuel in the carb for the engine to start and the thief to get about 200 yard.

 

I worked on the principal that it is very embarrassing to have to get out and be seen pushing the car to the side of the road to let the following cars pass, and wish you were in some other car.

 

At least, that's the way I used to feel, when I forgot to switch the pump back on.
