Hi any pointers, started car it almost seemed like it hydro locked, then started drove less than 10 yards loud squealing noise then clutch pedal went hard ? I could smell hot lining after switching off. Engine and clutch rebuilt by very well known engine builder in Yorkshire only done 1400 miles since rebuild.

What a bummer !

I'd strongly suggest not running the engine until you get this sorted as you will easily wipe out the crank thrusts or worse.

It sounds to me like there's a hydraulic issue there. 2 things that come to mind is the flexy hose being old and internally collapsed, in doing so, acting as a one way valve. The other is the master cylinder not being able to fully return by being held up by the pedal hitting the bulkhead.

For starters, I'd suggest opening the bleed nipple and seeing if there's any retained pressure there.

Sorry, just one other thing as I write this comes to mind - the thrust bearing may have let go. Noted it maybe new, but there's some rubbish ones getting about too..

Hi Spider, removed the starter motor and found debris in there so either clutch plate material or thrust bearing. Really pissed as only done 1400 miles since full rebuild.

Gutted for you. Touchwood, it's not too bad if the engine still idled.

Ah, yes, might be the friction material from the clutch plate broken off and stacked up on itself. Haven't seen that in a long time.

I have a custom bent ring spanner for those. A flexy-head spanner will also do them.
