Hi all,

I am a complete numpty when it comes to carbs. I know they are important and roughly what they do. But do anything with them NO WAY.

I had a garage refurb my HS4 sometime in the past only to discover they had used none genuine parts,

This caused the jet to occasionally stick in the fully open position when the choke had been pushed in, due to a non genuine jet being fitted.

I decided to have it done properly by the experts Burlen in Salesbury.

Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the HS4 before it was sent off. But I am sure you can imagine what an HS4 looks like after being in a car since 1988,

having been removed a few times with dirty hands and all those years of crud building up on it. The body being a dirty oily grey.

Below are pictures of the restored HS4.

The third picture is of all the parts that were replaced and returned to me.

As yet the carb has not been fitted back on the engine, but I have been assured that it will fire up with out any problem, unless I have created any in the meantime.

Very impressed with the service, unfortunately a 10 to 12 week lead time so should have done it over the winter.

Paddy

Excellent job that-how much did it cost if you don’t mind me asking?

Postage to Burlen £12.50 from Walton-on-Thames

Restoration including return by DHL £325 including vat.

To me well worth the money.

It is not shown in the photos but a new number tag was fitted in a better position so it will not get bent so readily.

It is fitted to the third screw for the top cover and in a vertical position up the side of the cover, whereas it was fixed by a screw on the top of the float chamber, so easily bent.

You can see the old one to the left of the old parts picture.

Not bad considering you’ve basically got a brand new carb that will last for years and years
