Hi so I’ve done a full restoration on a 1994 spi after getting it back from body shop and putting it back together, the car wouldn’t start (did before I took it, was there 4 week) so when I said it wouldn’t start I mean the fuel pump when ignition turned on didn’t run for the 10 second prime, so obviously it wasn’t going to start. So I’ve had this issue before with a mpi few years ago .
Checked and there was power to the fuel pump connector on the top of fuel pump and yes there was, Took out tank and the fuel pump, bench tested it and power to the pump terminals but no life. So I ordered a new pump off mini mine eBay as there quite quick at delivery. Fitted the pump with the few modifications and refit tank started straight up! Happy days!!
Three days later again ignition on no pump running, power to connector again. Tank out bench test no life!! So I have an mpi awaiting restoring which I knew was a runner, out with that pump bench test and nothing , tapped it a few times and off it went, I thought we’ll it had been stood a couple of years maybe it was seized from been stood. Tried same with the new pump from mini mine I bought and that did the same few taps, and away it went. Refit and running fine, week later oh no same again! Has done it 3 times now, I can take tank out in a few minutes now I’ve done it so many times 😂. Has anyone had this issue problem? Surely both pumps can’t be faulty, and how can they work fine for a bit after a light tap, no debris in fuel or tank. Any ideas or help would be appreciated, can I be missing anything? Also I’ve noticed car not running perfect little erratic at tick over now and again, also plugs sooty all the time, changed all vacuum pipes and check electrical connections. Thanks in advance 👍🏻
