So, as my daily MPI has been very well behaved recently (there I've cursed it now!) thought I'd take a look at the smaller jobs on it.

The speakers aren't working, by which I mean head unit works fine just no sound comes out, as a bit of an electrical dunce where would your first port of call be?

As far as I can tell they don't have a separate fuse so unlikely to be this as something else would be dead if this was the case. Can't see any loose wires or connections in the boot area leading into the speakers. Suspect I need to get my multimeter out?

cheers

If none of the speakers are working (assuming they're plugged in to the head unit), then I would be more inclined to suspect the head unit is faulty.

If you don't have any other speakers to try the head unit on, then I would look to find a local car audio specialist that could test the head unit for you

Oh really? Head unit itself seems to operate as normal (it is the standard Radio/CD one). I guess it could still be at fault however. So would it be a case of pulling this out and connecting some different speakers to it basically?

you could start by leaving it all in situ and just unplugging the connections at the speakers, plugging in known working ones just in the boot. Might need to make up a couple of extension wires to reach them instead of having them just hanging on the wire

That would be my first check probably

Probably goes without saying you've checked all the menu settings and it's not set to phono outputs or on mute or anything silly

Seems fairly unlikely to me that you'd lose both speakers though normally you get at least one working or just horrible crackling noise..

It's possible a connector behind the head unit has come loose maybe so have a look at that first if you don't have spare speakers or want to avoid buying new
