Hi all,
As the title suggests, car was attempted stolen but thankfully I had a pedal to wheel lock. Unfortunately this has caused a severe looseness in the steering. From what I can see it is the "clasp" that hangs down from below the dash board at the very top to the steering column.

I assume these are fairly straightforward forward to replace and if so, what is the part I am lookong for?

Thanks

As simple as that! Assume all the same no matter model? (Mines a 1980 1275GT). Also does the dash board need to come out?

There will probably be shear bolts, if so, you'll need to cut a slot for a flat head screwdriver to undo the pinch bolt.

The bolts under the dash may be shear bolts also, harder to get out due to limited access and nuts are captive on a bracket.

Seems to be the same part up until 97.

Tip: fully support the weight of the steering wheel/column while doing the replacement. And I would also slightly loosen the steering rack U-bolts too. Because inevitably the column is going to move a bit while you're working, and you wouldn't want to stress the rack input shaft.

To stop the steering column dropping, loop a piece of stout string through the steering wheel, and tie it tight over the roof.

Then stretch it backwards with another bit of string, tied to the boot handle.
