When I stripped my shell I noticed that the rot was far worse on the drivers side, floorpan, bulkhead, flitch, hinge panel etc etc whereas the passenger side was near original condition.
Having just acquired a front subframe I decided to strip it ready for blasting and noticed the drivers side pins, bushes, bolts etc were in very good condition with even the gold protective coating still there mostly on the bottom arm pin.
Moving to the passenger side .. everything solid, bushes wrecked and bolts massively corroded.
What the hell causes such dramatic differences of condition in different sides of the car?
I could understand if it was all the same side that suffered but it doesn't seem to be that way.

Is it a late one?

I've noticed that the driver's side usually is the most corroded.

No idea why!

You would have thought it would be the passenger side as that is the side that spends more time driving through puddles in the gutters or the road.

All cars i've restored have been worse on the drivers side than the passengers side, i've always assumed that it was because the passengers side gets the salt washed off more by the water in the gutter whereas the drivers side doesn't and so its subjected to a stronger salt concentration for longer.

Might be complete nonsense but thats always been my theory!

I’ve always thought it was because the warm air blowing out through the wheel arch on the passenger side keeping it drier, or is my fan on the wrong way round?

It's the same way on MPi's, with front mounted radiators, so that pops that theory.

I've found the same on the Jags and Austin Healeys i've done as well as a VW camper, always the driver side thats worse.
