Manifold Advice

Apart from an RC40 exhaust from the cat back, the car is standard.
The problem I have is there is a loud rasping noise coming from around the manifold area, it sounds like the exhaust is blowing.
I have already took the manifold off, and couldn’t see any cracks or holes on it, the gasket was in bad condition, so I replaced it with it with a new one, and put it back on.
I also replaced the clamp from the manifold to the down pipe, but this has made no difference, still the noise is there.
I have checked all around the manifold area, but can’t find anywhere obvious it is leaking from.
I have now taken the down pipe off, but again can’t see any cracks or holes in that either.
Any advice on what I can check next?
Many thanks.

If it is an exhaust leak, there'll be evidence of where that's occurring from the black soot at the leak.
If can also lower a piece of paper around the back of the engine and exhaust, in some long needle nose pliers or even a coat hanger wire. As you get around the leak, you'll see the paper starting to flap about.

I will give the paper on some long nosed pliers a try like you suggested as well.

Get a length (60cm) of narrow pipe (15-20mm) .With one end to your ear move the other end around the back of the engine until you find the loudest point.
