Hello, maybe some remember that recently I bought a Mini, and the flywheel detached from the crankshaft in the first drive after 30 minutes.

Here is the original post about it:

https://www.theminif...ut-the-flyweel/

I mounted a new MED ST1 flywheel/clutch set following instructions given by Spider, rww, and other gurus around here.

I took it for a short ride and all seemed fine, good clutch control, no slippage, and downshifts were good without any grinding.

When I came back after 10 minutes I noticed a strange rattle that goes away when the clutch is pressed, so something is not right, unfortunately.

When the engine is cold is not noticeable, but after a few minutes it starts to be, and it doesn't sound good...

This is a short video I just made:

Any idea of what could be happening?

Thank you very much

Sounds to me like idler gear rattle.  Try speeding up the tickover.

Seems like increasing idle speed did the trick, now I can't barely hear any change in sound at idle.

Here a short video of the engine running, do you think it sounds decent? I'll enjoy the car a bit before tearing the engine apart.

Thanks!

That sounds a lot better.  I don't know what cam you have in it but the hotter the cam the rougher the idle will be and the more likely you are to get idler gear rattle until the idle speed is increased.  A lightweight flywheel might also add to the problem.

edit - nice looking mini by the way.

Thanks! It has a Kent 266 and a lightweight flywheel, I'm sure there is some wear at the idle gear bearings and primary, but seems fine for a few miles.

How do I mark this post as answered? I have seen some post with that annotation, seems appropriate.
