squealing

I seem to be getting squealing from the engine when its mainly cold by the seems of it, can any one tell me what it might be and how hard it is to fix... thanks

could be the water pump. they squeal when the bearings go. check the fanbelt tough it could be loose OR too tight

The fan belt could be the noise maker, you don't have to replace it (always a good idea if you dont know how long its been there) just adjust the alternator to take up any slack.

Before tho with ur finger press down on the fan belt (engine off unless you want your nails filing down) and it should depress a little from you proding it down (no more than a 1cm or even less id go for). Its fine if its like that otherwise id tighten or replace.

If your going to replace it have a box of plasters on hand and a swear jar and plenty of change.

remove the rad(top bracket hoses and bottom bolt), remove the fan(4 bolts) undoo the water pump (4 bolts)

if you have a 998 or some 1275's you'll have a bypass hose!! change this at the same time with a solid hose or you'll get more grief from it!
