
Crank End Float Issue

I'd say it's likely from oil on the crank making one set of thrusts stick to the crank. As you move the crank, the thrusts are moving with it, leaving the clearance on the backside of the thrusts.

I'd suggest check what the issue is here. I've only suggested what I think it could be.

How are you pushing the crank from side to side, levers ?
If pushing it by hand it will be very hit and miss due to the oil on the bearing taking up the slack as Spider has suggested.

The above excellent replies are aimed at your technique in getting repeatable results, Just for extra caution ( : DO NOT move on until you are absolutely sure of your measure - and as to what you are aiming for.- probably different thoughts on this - but mine are 4 thousand is fine for a normal road car - maybe aim for 5 or 6 thous if you regularly rev out above 6- 6500rpm.
