Hi Members, first time having an automatic engine on a classic mini and this one is a 998 without park.

Not sure if I should check the oil level when the engine is running or when is OFF ?

There is a special procedure. Note that it also uses different oil to the manuals. Here is the procedure copied from the service manual:

With the engine at normal working temperature run for 2 minutes, switch off and leave for 1 minute then check the oll level. Top up as necessary. 1 pint of oil raises the level from minimum to maximum on the dipstick.

NOTE. If a preliminary check is made after the vehicle has been standing for some hours eg, overnight, and before starting the engine, the oil level may prove to be approx 1/2" above the maximum mark. This is normal and is due to oil draining from the converter and oil galleries into the sump. Should the level be low, the sump should of course be topped up before running the engine and rechecked at normal working temperature.
