Have a set of TWIN HS4s. run 1310cc 285 cam. I've got the maniflow inlet manifold.

Need advice on air filter setup options:

MED Stubstack System with the ITG Filter OR K&N Cones with the SS51 KN Stubstack. Money is not a concern.

Which setup is overall better? Has anyone managed to compare the two? Any clearance issues with either or?

I tend to like the look of the cones. But looks aint everything as they say.

KN details Aluminum stub stack for SU HS4 and HIF4/38 carburetors. Proven by repeated independent tests to provide 3 to 5 more horsepower on a 1275 by smoothing the airflow into the mouth of the carburetor. Effective, in spite of its rough cast finish. Originally manufactured by K&N UK to fit inside their filters. No additional gasket is used, as it fits inside the air filter. The original bolts may be used, as the stub stack and filter plate are thinner than the the original filter elbow.

MED details - The MED aluminium stub stacks have been extensively tested on our 110 Superflow flow bench to optimise the elliptical radius on the stub stack. The result is improved air flow to the carburettor and a proven increase in performance - on a wide range of different engines and rolling roads. Combined with the genuine ITG air filter, this offers an unbeatable package for the twin HS4 1.5-inch SU carburettors. The filter base plate is laser cut from lightweight aluminium, while the specially-designed ITG filter with full radius sides gives an easy fit within the standard bulkhead. Whereas many aftermarket air filters have a solid plate opposite the carb mouth, the ITG design offers maximum airflow through an open-style foam filter.

I currently run the MED/ITG set up on twin hs4's on a maniflow intake. Used to have K&N pancakes with stubstacks, but engine spec was very different.
K&N's were from the 1980's and the stubstacks were very rough and quite poorly made compared with the MED stacks. Don't know how modern K&N stacks compare.
MED setup fits well but is difficult to mount the back plate and stacks with the bolts and nuts supplied. I made my own mounting system. I now also run with the additional 16mm spacers between the manifold and carbs - this makes instalation of the filter difficult as the speedo cable and factory oil pressure gauge pipe get in the way. Minor tweek to the speedo hole in the bulkhead required.
K&N pancake filters were easy to fit to carbs on maniflow intake, but I never tried with the additional carb spacers.
Don't know how instalation compares with K&N cone filters.
My car is from 1972, post 1990ish cars have the engine sitting slightly further forward in the subframes so should have slightly more clearance.
