I’m putting my pedal box back together but the return spring doesn’t fit nicely over the pivot points on the brake/clutch pedals. It was a while ago that I took it apart but I’m sure I remember there being a plastic sleeve between the pedals and the spring but it’s not on any diagrams and I can’t find it in any of my boxes of bits. Anyone know if that piece exists or if the play between the spring and pedals doesn’t matter

I've done loads of them over the years, I've never found such a piece nor seen one listed in any of the parts books.

I have however noticed that on some cars, the spring can wear against the outer tube that the pivot bushes are in. It could well be possible that a previous owner may have fitted something here. They may have experienced an issue with vibration noise from it too.

Equally though you wouldn't want it too snug or it'll probably squeak every time you press the pedal down.. you'll have to press the pedals in a bit to connect them to the master cylinders at which point the spring is under a small amount of tension anyway and shouldn't move about or rattle

Even if it did I'm sure all the other noise would drown it out

Can’t say I have ever seen one but MPis are a bit new for me.

When the spring is twisted, by the pedal being pressed, its internal diameter will reduce. So there has to be slack.
