Replacing Fan Belt

Yours is worn. The 10 in the part number signifies it should be 10mm wide.
I don't understand what you mean by not fitting in the pulleys deep enouh to adjust? The belt shouldn't sit too far into the pulleys as it then won't grip as effectively. The fraction of extra 'length' you will gain by it sitting slightly deeper shouldn't give that much more adjustment. If you have fitted the new belt and it is around all the pulleys it 'must' adjust, you probably just need a bit of extra leverage to help stretch it slightly.
If the aldjustment has reached its upper limit then sitting deeper into the pulleys would make that worse - essentially the belt is then too long.

The outer side of any V belt should be proud of the rim of the pulley.
A V belt's grip comes from the wedged sides of the belt.
If the outer side of a V belt is level with the rim of the pulley, the inner side is probably running in the bottom of the pulley and has effectively become a flat belt.
I can't put my hand on my, by now over 100 years old copy of "The Flexible Transmission of Power", but a V belt with the same cross section as a flat belt, has about 80% more grip on the pulley than a flat belt.

A new belt can be quite tight to fit round the pulleys then once its on its slack and you wonder why it wouldn't fit.
Fit the belt to the water pump and crankshaft pulleys, slacken the alternator bolts and remove the bottom bolt completely.
This gives the maxium travel on the alternator, fit the belt over the alternator pulley and tension with a lever between the engine block and the alternator. Keeping the tension on refit the bottom alternator bolt, and then tension as normal.
Give this a try and I hope it helps.

As above, but you will also need to slacken off the nut at the inner (i.e engine) end of the alternator stay to allow the alternator to pivot as far back as it can go.
can't recall if it's possible to fit the stay the wrong way round, but worth checking; slotted end to the engine, the end with the single hole to the alternator

Are you replacing like for like 10 x 813 (W x L) ?
Is the current adjustment position right up one end of the slot ?
Maybe you need one of the longer alternatives...
