GTR 104 TEMPERATURE SENDER TRANSMITTER 'S' AND DELUXE MINI 1964-1969
"Most minis with dual gauges up to 1969 including Cooper S Mk2 that had oil/temp gauges fitted used this type and all when fitted with a voltage stabiliser.
Minis before Sept 1964 except some super deluxe and pre Sept 1964 Cooper without voltage stabiliser used GTR102 with green identification nose.
After 1969 use GTR 101. Another guide is that the gauge for this had a pointed bezel but if you have the later rounded bezel type from 1970 on try GTR101 if readings seem wrong."

GTR 101 TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER 1970 ON MINI:-
"Thermal transmitter fitted in the cylinder head from 1970 on until its demise on the 1990 Coopers this part was the same as GTR143. One number was original fitment and the other supplied as the spare part by Unipart.
Fits 998 1275 and cooper S Mk3. The correct original temp gauge for this usually had the rounded bezel wheras the pointed type bezel usually used GTR104 on MK1/2 when voltage stabiliser is fitted."

I believe that in later minis with dual/triple in line Nippon Seiki instruments, voltage stabilisation is integral to the individual parts (fuel and temp) whereas on the earlier Smiths dual/triple in line gauge setup there is a single voltage stabiliser similar to the centre binnacle type (but it plugs into the PCB so cannot be used with standard 6.3mm terminals)
You do need a Voltage stabiliser so that you don't see the problem you are having currently - are you sure you have correctly made the wiring when you converted from in-line to centre binnacle?
- (variable)12v to stabiliser, stabilised 10v from stabiliser to gauge (fuel and/or temp), output from gauge to sender/ variable earth
