Hi all, from sunny but currently freezing New Zealand! This is the story of my second mini (and second car I ever owned). The first being an 850cc painted in pink house paint with a WRX scoop in the bonnet. But this thread isn't about that one.
Bought for $600 off Trademe in around 2005 – this car saw me through highschool and a few years afterwards, until the engine sprung a leak I couldn't afford (and didn't have the patience) to fix at the time. Since then it sat for far too long in my parents carport while I inched towards having a place with a workshop of my own.
Eventually (and still some years ago) I decided that it was then or never and chose to go for a restomod style approach. Got the body blasted, repaired, painted and got started on a ground up rebuild. This has been one of the most expensive endeavours of my life, but it's shaping up to a very special car I hope to hold onto for a long time to come.
Too many details to list, but to date the updates include disc brakes, springs, solid mounts, upgraded disc brakes, 12" wheels, arches, etc. Currently in the workshop is a 1380cc engine being built for turbo and plans for custom and modern electronics throughout.
