All other things being equal, which tyre gives the better ( more comfortable / less bouncy)  drive.  145 or 165 X10 ?    Also does the width of wheel have an effect on comfort ?

My experience was that the 145 tyres felt like they changed direction easier, steering was slightly lighter

The heavier the wheel and tyre combo is, the more it dampens the feel and overall drivability.

In regards to the rim width, the wider the rim the less the tyre will bulge and potentially be a bit more stable. However going wider also increases the weight and track, and these can have negative effects on comfort

On stock rims, I'd recommend sticking with 145s.

For 'comfort', drive a hydrostatic and run 145s 0n 155 rims with the pressure reduced by about 4 / 5 psi and put up with the tyre wear.
